Seven Lakota students were arrested for vandalizing Lakota East High School.
Around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, the students allegedly smeared ketchup, mustard, glue and thumb tacks on the front of the school building and the sign by the entrance, according to police reports. They also toilet-papered about a dozen trees.
Custodians working in the building overnight saw some of the vandalism and called the Butler County Sheriff's Office. One vehicle of five students left the scene before the deputies could make an arrest, but School Resource Officer Dept. Doug Hale said officers apprehended two students.
ST. CLAIR TWP. — Sheriff's deputies received a call Wednesday about man wearing a black "police" jacket who had handcuffed a youngster and was standing on the corner with a loaded gun and badge.
The problem was the man, Brandon T. Hubbard, 20, of Red Bud Lane, is not a police officer, according to the sheriff's office.
Hubbard is in the Butler County Jail today, May 15, after deputies charged him Wednesday night with impersonating a police officer and inducing panic.
OXFORD — A 19-year-old Miami University student was released from Miami Valley Hospital on Wednesday, May 14, five days after a fight at the Signa Nu fraternity under investigation by Oxford police and the university.
Steven A. Ward, of Springboro, was charged with underage intoxication after Oxford police were called to the fraternity house at 300 Talawanda Road at 2:28 a.m. May 9, according to a police report.
Witnesses said Ward had been drinking prior to falling and striking his head on the stairs, according to the report.
FAIRFIELD TWP. — A stabbing victim says the person who stabbed him did it because he didn't like the music he was listening to.
According to reports from Local 12, police said the victim was on his porch on Allstatter Avenue in Fairfield Twp. listening to country music Wednesday night when someone allegedly walked up onto the porch and stabbed him in the chest.
A police dog was called out to the area, but the suspect has not been found. No name or condition of the victim has been released.
Three families are out of their homes after a residence in a townhome complex caught fire.
Firefighters responded at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, to a report of a one unit fully engulfed at the Lakota Pointe townhomes, said Liberty Twp. Fire Chief Paul Stumpf.
The residence of Cindy Childers was on fire, with dark smoke billowing out when firefighters arrived, but was knocked out in about 10 minutes, Stumpf said.
Man stabbed in knife fight outside fast-food restaurant
A Hamilton man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed another man in the Burger King parking lot on Breiel Boulevard.
Police were dispatched to the restaurant on a report of a large fight involving knives at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, May 13.
Officers found Branden Bolin, 18, bleeding from a stab wound stretching from his left pectoral muscle to his back. Bolin was not listed as a patient at Atrium Medical Center on Wednesday night.
Deputies said they arrested a New Carlisle on Tuesday night who was surfing the Internet, while her 4-ydar-old son wandered through parking lots looking for her.
According to deputies, Jennifer Rosseland left her son in her Brubaker Square apartment watching cartoons before going to a different unit to access the Internet.
A New Carlisle deputy found the little boy dragging his blanket through the parking lot.
Police in Sidney now say that it appears that an elderly man suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
On Tuesday morning, 80-year-old Paul Wilt of Independence Court was found dead in his home. Police said there was no evidence of forced entry into his home.
Investigators did confirm that Wilt was the victim of a residential burglary a month ago. Overnight Tuesday, police executed several search warrants in Sidney in reference to their investigation into the death.
