Suspect In Springfield Home Invasion Pleads Not Guilty
Authorities said two men broke into a Springfield home and assaulted a 13-year-old girl who was home sick from school.
One man who was captured is accused of the crime, but he said it did not do it.
Tyrone Fambro, 35, appeared in court Friday and pleaded not guilty to aggravated burglary. He is accused of breaking into the home on East Euclid Avenue.
A chemical herbicide spill closed the intersection of Warren Street and Broadway in Lebanon today, Friday, May 9.
Around 11:10 a.m., a 220-gallon barrel of Lumax, a chemical herbicide, fell off a flatbed truck based out of Southwest Landmark that turned east onto Warren Street from Broadway. The barrel hit a car and split open, spilling its contents onto the road, Lebanon fire Capt. Krista Wyatt said. No one was injured.
Lebanon firefighters responded to contain the spill by placing a mixture of sand and and a chemical drying material to absorb the liquid weed killer.
Middletown's North Verity Weed and Seed effort never took root despite nearly $30,000 in funding.
The effort's steering committee formed just three months ago with members expressing excitement about the opportunity to curb crime and improve social services in the city's northwest neighborhoods. But then conflict broke out with another Weed and Seed effort under way in the city's 2nd Ward. Crippled by resignations, the remaining members decided to permanently adjourn Thursday evening, May 8.
"It's sad, it's truly sad because some people were really interested in doing things for the city," said Jennifer Carter, committee member.
Three Deerfield Twp. teens charged with making explosive devices
Deerfield Twp. — Warren County Sheriff's deputies filed criminal charges against three teens for using explosive devices in Deerfield Twp, police said.
The boys, each 15 years old, set off the explosive outside a residence at 8954 Pembrooke Drive just after midnight Saturday, May 3, according to police.
One of the boys sustained injuries to the upper portion of his body when the boys "mixed a batch of chemicals into an explosive mixture and set it off in an empty soup can," a police report stated. Pieces of the soup can hit the house and at least one other nearby house, and one boy was treated and released from a local hospital.
HAMILTON — The Butler County Sheriff's Office is looking for help from the public as part of an ongoing investigation into the deployment of a Taser by Oxford police last month.
A Miami University graduate, Kevin Piskura, died several days after he was stunned by the Taser in the early morning hours of April 19 outside the Brick Street Bar.
Detectives in the sheriff's office would like to talk to anyone who may have helpful information. They also are seeking help from anyone who may have taken photos, audio or video recordings or were witnesses to the event and have not yet been interviewed by sheriff's personnel.
HAMILTON — Police are asking for the public's help in locating a missing person.
Charles William Tieke, 68, has been missing since April 15, police said. His last known address is 404 S. Fourth St. in Hamilton.
Tieke is described as a white male, five feet, nine inches, 120 pounds with gray hair and green eyes. He is usually wearing a hat, and frequents the Salvation Army and the New Life Ministry, but hasn't been seen there for three weeks.
HAMILTON — Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones and Fairfield Fire Chief Don Bennett have the "recycling" spirit in the form of a big red truck.
A fire/rescue unit that is past its prime for use in emergency situations has been donated by the city of Fairfield to sheriff's office, where it will be repurposed as a evidence vehicle.
Jones and Bennett looked over the vehicle Tuesday, May 6, after the official exchange of keys. The two said it was a win-win deal for both agencies.
